Justin Sims is the personal trainer at Anytime Fitness Ahwatukee. He holds a NASM certification, a kinesiology degree, and more than 15 years of hands-on training experience working with people across every fitness level — from first-timers who've never touched a barbell to competitive athletes chasing performance goals. He's been at this location since it opened in May 2023.
Justin doesn't do cookie-cutter programs. Every client he works with gets an assessment first, a program built around their specific history and goals, and coaching that evolves as they do. That approach — combined with the kind of relationship-building that keeps clients coming back for years, not sessions — is what makes him effective.
Justin's Training Philosophy
The most common mistake people make when starting with a trainer is expecting a generic program delivered at high speed. Justin's approach is the opposite. He starts by understanding where you are right now — your movement history, injury background, lifestyle, what you've tried before, and what actually motivates you to show up.
From there, the programming is built specifically for you. Not a template with your name on it — an actual program that accounts for how your body moves, what you're capable of today, and where you're going over the next three to six months.
The goal isn't just to get results in session one. It's to build a system you can sustain. Justin's clients tend to stay with him long-term because the program keeps adapting — what you need in month two is different from what you need in month eight, and Justin makes sure the training reflects that.
- Meets you where you are, not where the program assumes you are
- Builds progressive programs that adapt over months, not weeks
- Prioritizes form and movement quality as the foundation of all results
- Keeps you accountable without making sessions feel punishing
- Stays in direct communication between sessions — you always have a point of contact
Who Justin Works With
Justin works across the full spectrum of fitness backgrounds. There's no client profile that's too beginner or too advanced — what matters is that you're committed to the process.
- Beginners learning to move correctly and build confidence in the gym for the first time
- People returning after injury who need a careful, graduated approach that doesn't set them back
- Seniors focused on mobility, balance, and building functional strength to support independent living
- Weight loss clients who want sustainable fat loss paired with real strength gains — not just cardio
- Experienced lifters hitting a plateau who need fresh programming and a trained eye on their technique
- Golfers who want to add distance, reduce injury risk, and build the rotational strength the sport demands
- Sport-specific athletes training for performance in their event or season
If you're unsure whether training with Justin is a fit for where you are, the easiest answer is to come in and talk to him. That initial conversation costs nothing and tells you a lot.
What a Session With Justin Looks Like
New clients start with an assessment. Before Justin designs anything, he wants to understand your range of motion, how you move under load, what your history with training looks like, and what your goals actually are — not just in broad terms, but specifically. That assessment informs everything that follows.
From there, the program is built and the coaching begins. Sessions are focused and intentional. Justin is watching form on every set, cueing corrections in real time, and tracking how your body responds over time. Progress isn't assumed — it's measured, and the program adjusts accordingly.
- Session 1: Movement assessment and goal-setting conversation
- Ongoing sessions: Progressive programming with real-time form coaching
- Between sessions: Direct access to Justin for questions, accountability, and program clarification
- Regular check-ins: Progress reviews where the program gets updated based on where you are, not where you started
The gym has everything Justin needs to build effective programs — 5,500 sq ft of space, 1,200+ sq ft of turf for functional training, a full rack of free weights, cable systems, and modern machines. You won't hit a limitation in the equipment before you hit one in the program.
